Last week saw the Brighton screening of the critically acclaimed film ‘Why The Jews?’ which looked at the disproportionate success of the Jewish people, in fields such as medicine, physics and the arts.

We were kindly hosted by BHPS at their wonderful synagogue, and guests were greeted with refreshments on arrival, before Marc Sugarman welcomed everyone and introduced Alan Aziz, CEO of Technion UK, who facilitated the film coming to Brighton.

Before the film itself we watched a short film highlighting Technion’s remarkable work and achievements.

The film itself had several humorous highlights as well as some astonishing insights. Most notably Alan Dershovitz (lawyer in numerous well known cases in the US) remarking that he ‘now is only Jewish on his parents side’ and Dr Ruth (TV personality) commenting how she felt obliged to make something of her life, being the only family survivor from Auschwitz. We also learnt of how the first Rabbi in Asia introduced ‘Talmud style’ learning and his greatest achievement being, that this method of one-to-one discussion has been adopted in South Korea.
